Virginia Howlett – Biography

Virginia Howlett, Artist

Canadian-born artist Virginia Howlett creates abstract landscape paintings, photographic collages, and large installation pieces, all inspired by nature. Virginia is fascinated by the contemplative experience of landscape. She uses various media to communicate the sense of calm and mystery we all feel in the natural world. After years of creating watercolors of skies presented on panels, her recent work includes photographic collages on metal of “Mysterious Places” and oil paintings of water.

She received an BFA with Distinction from Ohio State University and an MFA in Painting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Formerly an Assistant Professor of Painting at Hampton University and at New Mexico Highlands University, Virginia won a Mellon Foundation grant to create artwork in Oaxaca, Mexico.
